For shelter access and other immediate housing resources, call the United Way helpline at 2-1-1.

Referral Paths

Use the sections below to find the correct first step. PPCS programs are referral based, so the right starting point depends on the type of help needed.
I am homeless and need shelter.
To get a bed in the emergency shelter, you have two options:
- Call 2-1-1, the United Way Housing Helpline. Ask for access to shelter. If you do not get a bed at one of the emergency shelters on the first day, continue to try every day early in the morning until a bed is available.
- Go in person to the St. Patrick Center Welcome Center Monday-Friday at 800 N. Tucker Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63101. The most strategic times to arrive are 8 a.m. or 1 p.m.
I am hungry and cannot afford food.
- For dinners the 2nd through the 21st of every month, the Sts. Peter & Paul Meals Program offers meals Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. The address is 812 Allen Ave, St. Louis 63104.
- For dinners on the 22nd through the 1st of each month, go to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in LaSalle Park. Dinner is served from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The address is 1408 S. 10th Street, St. Louis 63104.
- St. Vincent De Paul also offers lunch Monday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and lunch on Sunday 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Contact the United Way at 2-1-1 or search their online directory for more resources.
I think I may have a mental illness and am homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
- If you have not seen a psychiatrist, or have not been diagnosed with a mental illness, contact BJC Behavioral Health to get an appointment with mental health care professionals. The number is 314-729-4004. Toll Free: 877-729-4004.
- If you get diagnosed with a mental illness and are assigned a case worker, work with the case worker to get a referral to the Labre Center or Garfield Place.
- For more immediate housing and other resources, call the United Way helpline at 2-1-1.
I am homeless and I am HIV positive.
- If you have not been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, but you think that you have the disease, you can get tested for free at the St. Louis City Department of Health. The address is 1520 Market Street, Suite 4027, St. Louis 62060. Testing hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment, visit the city website.
- If you have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, the St. Louis City Department of Health will help you get care, including access to doctors, money for healthcare, and immediate emergency housing if you are homeless. The phone number is 314-657-1532. Also request to have a Ryan White case manager.
- Work with your Ryan White case manager to be referred to the Peter & Paul Positive Directions program.
I am homeless or at risk of losing my home and have a pet. What can I do?
Many shelters are unable to accommodate pets. Contact the APA for help temporarily boarding your beloved companion while you get the help you need. The APA phone number is 314.645.4610.

For shelter, food, mental health, HIV care, or pet-related help, use the referral information above first. PPCS cannot skip the required referral steps for housing programs.
