Helping People Home with Rapid Re-Housing

Over 230 People Housed

This fall, while staring down the oncoming winter, Peter & Paul Community Services (PPCS) Case Managers Daquiti Shabazz and Crystal Collins added another project to their plates: rapid re-housing for people displaced by the tornado.

For the hundreds of people who lost their homes in an instant last May, locating new housing could have significant roadblocks. Rapid re-housing removes some of those barriers. This includes help locating available housing they meet the requirements for, and rental assistance to get back on their feet.

Finding housing can be challenging under the best circumstances for many of our neighbors. A disaster impacting thousands of residences puts you in an even more precarious situation. “We are so grateful to the landlords and organizations that partnered with us to help successfully house so many people,” said Daquiti Shabazz, PPCS Lead Case Manager.

In just a few months, more than 230 people displaced by the tornado were connected to long-term housing through PPCS rapid re-housing efforts. “Seeing so many individuals and families successfully housed through this process has been incredibly rewarding,” said Crystal Collins, PPCS Housing Case Manager. “Every [housing] approval is a win for the entire community.”
