After more than two years of searching for a suitable home to move and expand our emergency shelter, we excitedly announced the purchase of the former Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home facility in April.
It’s now been three months since our shelter clients moved from the Soulard Shelter to our new Jugan Shelter at the Community Campus. Temporarily housed in the former chapel at the campus, clients at our Jugan Shelter continue to meet with their case managers, enjoy the large dining area that is no longer located next to the sleeping area, and work hard to create stability and independence.

“It’s awesome to see the progress our shelter guests are making at the campus. They’re putting in a lot of hard work, and at this facility we can help even more people get the support they need,” said Shelter Director Teri Dunn.
While our clients at the Jugan Shelter work toward their goals, our staff is busy preparing for the renovation of the former auditorium. Projected to take several months, once complete the finished space will provide shelter for 100 men.

In addition to renovating the auditorium to accommodate the Jugan Shelter, we’ve been working hard to make improvements throughout the campus, including:
- Repairing cast iron plumbing throughout the facility.
- Adding signs to mark entrances.
- Cleaning and preparing a floor of the tower for immigrant families.
- Renovating the 15 apartments on site to prepare for new residents.
- Much-needed tree trimming and groundskeeping.
- Resealing parking lots for longevity.
- HVAC repairs to keep things cool this summer.
- Building a reception area for clients to securely and safely enter and exit the building.
- Hiring additional safety and security monitors.

“We are incredibly excited about what the future holds at the Community Campus. Once renovations are finished it will be the largest homeless services space in St. Louis,” said Anthony D’Agostino, PPCS CEO. “We can provide housing and help to so many more people in this space.”
